Numbering comes last, and gets forgotten
Court bundles, legal exhibits, theses, and long reports are usually stitched together from documents that were numbered separately or not at all. Once merged, the page numbers restart or vanish — and a reviewer, judge, or examiner who prints the file has no way to keep two hundred loose sheets in order. Reopening every source document to fix its footer and re-exporting the lot is the painful route; stamping continuous numbers onto the finished PDF afterward is the sane one. Page numbers are also what makes “see page 47” possible in a hearing or a review call — without them, everyone in the room is counting sheets by hand.
Step by step: number the bundle
- Open the Add Page Numbers to PDF tool on SafeFileConvert and drop the assembled document onto the dropzone. Several files can be queued, and each gets numbered with the same settings.
- Pick a position from the six on offer — any corner, or centered top or bottom — and one of three styles: a bare 1, Page 1, or 1 of 12. Three sizes run from footnote-subtle to clearly visible.
- Set the starting number if the default 1 is wrong for your submission. A thesis whose unnumbered front matter takes two pages can start its body at 3, and the 1 of 12 style counts from your chosen start too.
- Download the numbered copy. The labels are drawn as ordinary vector text in the PDF standard’s built-in Helvetica, so they print and display identically in every viewer and the file barely grows.
Two things to check before stamping
The tool adds labels — it can’t detect or erase numbers a document already has, so numbering an already-numbered file produces an overlap. And the labels sit in the outer margin, about a centimeter from the edge, where documents rarely have content; if some pages run edge-to-edge, choose a corner that’s clear on every page before you commit.
A filing shouldn’t make a detour
Legal filings, exhibits, and theses carry names, case details, and unpublished work, and none of that needs to visit a server to have digits stamped in a corner. The numbering is drawn into the file by code running in a background thread of your browser; the document is opened, labeled, and saved entirely on your machine, with no account, no daily limit, and no watermark beyond the numbers you asked for. Queue the exhibits and the main bundle together and the whole filing is numbered in one pass.
