Documents drift without a label
A draft sent for comments gets forwarded to someone who treats it as the finished version. A price list shared with one client surfaces at their competitor. An agency’s unpaid concept work quietly ends up in production. None of these need malice — just a clean-looking PDF with nothing on it saying draft, confidential, or whose work it is. Stamping that status across every page is the cheapest insurance there is, and the documents involved are usually sensitive enough that the stamping shouldn’t happen on someone else’s server. A stamp on every page also survives partial sharing: even when someone forwards a single page, the label travels with it.
Step by step: apply the watermark
- Open the Watermark PDF tool on SafeFileConvert and drop the document onto the dropzone.
- Type the stamp text: DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a company name — anything in standard Latin letters, numbers, and punctuation. Text outside that set is rejected with a clear message rather than producing a broken file.
- Choose the layout. Diagonal places one large stamp corner-to-corner — the classic look. Horizontal centers the text straight across the middle. Tiled repeats it in staggered rows so no single crop can remove it. Then set opacity anywhere from a barely-there 5% to a hard-to-miss 60%, in gray, red, or blue, at one of three sizes.
- Download the stamped copy. The watermark lands on every page with the same settings. Open it once to check that the opacity and size read the way you intended before sending it anywhere.
Light on the file, honest about its limits
The stamp is drawn as vector text using the PDF standard’s built-in bold font, so pages aren’t re-rendered: the document’s own text stays selectable, quality is untouched, and the file barely grows. Be clear-eyed about what a watermark does, though — it communicates status and deters casual reuse, but it isn’t copy protection, and someone determined with editing software could remove it. For layered protection, add a password with the Protect PDF tool as well — the watermark speaks to honest readers, the password stops everyone else.
Stamped without being seen
Proposals, price lists, and pre-release work are confidential by definition, which is exactly why this tool runs where the file already is. The watermark is drawn into the PDF by code executing in your browser; neither the document nor your stamp text is transmitted anywhere, and there’s no account, no daily cap, and no charge.
